To that end, I am going to describe the hoildays as the Italians know it, and I know there's a great NJ girl out there reading this and can relate: 1) Christmas to the Italians involves bread. Not just any bread---it's like its own meal, and it doesn't come from just any place (such as the supermarket), it's got to come from "the way they used to make it" places that still make it that ways. To that end, it's Melone's, 's, or any of the other known NJ bakeries (or it comes from NY like me :) 2) You're the NJ girl that goes with your mother, aunts and grandmother (if she's still with us) to get those ingredients to make a good meal. You're the girl that they tell you along the way, "When are you going to find a nice Italian boy?". LOL. (to which you laugh them off). 3) Your recipes are handed down from the people in your life that although they are no longer with us perhaps, you can just see their approval that you got it right. 4) There's always a board or card game to be played at Christmas. 5) You're always a looker and well put together, but you're a woman who is down-to-earth and believes in "a little Christmas each day". 6) There's at least one Uncle , Uncle , Uncle or (or some other Italian name)that's the life of the party and a good guy. 7) There's always Italian treats to go with the good food! 8) Midnight mass is a "must" if not, then early on Sunday. 9) You light up like a Christmas tree when your nephews and/or nieces open up a gift from Aunt (insert your name) because you made their Christmas. 10) You know the reason for the season and do good all year. 11) You're professional and independent, but traditional too. After all, you won't pass up a kiss and hug under the mistletoe. 12) You believe in the magic of Christmas and that bad movie re-runs on Christmas are always better under the blanket snuggled up with someone special. 13) You like the holidays because after Christmas there's always New Years and of course that means more fun and celebration. 14) You believe that gifts are nice, but that the best things in life can't be bought in stores---no matter how many times we're told that. 15) Like me, you're seeking that Italian who just "gets you" and "our way". Everyone else is the of our celebrations... 16) You believe that it doesn't matter what two people do for Christmas as long as they enjoy each other's company. 17) While going to get the aforementioned ingredients for the "feast", you take a ribbing from your mother, grandmother (if she's still with us), and/or aunt on when you'll find that "nice Italian man". You laugh them off, but you do wonder when (psst, I'm over here, hint...) 18) Your Italian Dad is elated when he gets socks (yet again). But he's bowled over when he gets a Craftsman power tool instead. LOL. 19) You sit at work in your great career and enjoy the fact that the holidays are coming up, and although they are work, they are work you enjoy. Family makes it all worth it. 20) You hope one day that you'll have celebrations just like your parents did---because that's the Italian way. 21) You enjoy decorating the house, but wouldn't it be nicer with someone special? :) 22) There's inevitably Christmas music playing at your house. It's Italian, American or a combination thereof :). 23) You enjoy the downtime of the holidays as a time to reflect on the year. 24) You get dolled up for the holidays because it's a time that you enjoy dressing up. 25) You've been intrigued by the first 25 here and wonder if I have 25 more up my sleeve (the answer is yes, but you'll have to get to know me better for those next 25!)
